Borislav Bereza on the ban on the production of fur in Ukraine

MP Borislav Bereza’s speech on the TV channel “Priamyi” on February 7 was illustrative of draft law No. 10019 on the prohibition of the production of fur in Ukraine. During the “Priamyi Efir” talk show, Bereza told that one of the MPs asked him to sign the draft law. He decided to get a better understanding of the issue and later found out the following facts:

“In Ukraine, there are only 4 companies that produce fur, the volume is 1 million skins. This is mink. But 85 % of that mink goes to Denmark, where it is sold for the foreign currency that comes to Ukraine. I ask: why then this happens? They explain to me: ‘You know, some people don’t like that there is such a powerful industry in Ukraine.’ Moreover, it became known that in Ukraine, foreigners are going to open a new, fifth farm for 600,000 such skins. To make this happen they came to him for money. They said to him: ‘Do you want to do this? Give us the money.’ He refused. He is a foreigner, he does not understand how this can be. And then an interesting draft law appears.

Do you want this draft law not to be passed? Give us the money. They engage activists. The most interesting thing is that they engage people who are really interested in this issue. But Ukraine is losing one and a half thousand jobs at a time in rural areas. Tens of millions of dollars that go directly to the budget. The industry, which exists in Ukraine, will be closed. And the most interesting thing: what is the issue? They pollute the environment. Then I ask those who are working in this business. They say: “Do you know how we feed these minks? With kidneys of chicken and fish that were to be disposed”.
